Tourist Information

The Golden Visitors Center is located in historic downtown Golden, Colorado, on the north side of Clear Creek, at 1010 Washington Avenue. There is free public parking adjoining the building. Across the street are the American Mountaineering Center and a public park. The Visitors Center is easily accessible by car, on foot, by bicycle or bus. For a map and directions, click here.

The building is open from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 - 4 on Saturdays. It is closed on Sundays and holidays. Just inside the door are volunteers to answer questions, give directions and make you feel welcome. The lobby is stuffed with brochures, maps, exhibits and helpful information about local attractions. Brochure racks by the front door are accessible 24 hours a day.

The Visitors Center is owned by the Golden Visitors Center Corporation. A volunteer Board of Trustees oversees operations. VisitGolden (the Golden Office of Economic Development's website), the Golden Chamber of Commerce, the Golden Downtown Development Authority and the City of Golden Special Events Coordinator all have offices in the building.

Local business people and civic leaders started raising funds for the Golden Visitors Center in 1995. The building was completed with borrowed and donated funds in 1997 on land leased from the City of Golden for a dollar a year. The doors opened to the public on May 29, 1997. In 2002, the trustees launched a second major fund raising drive to retire debt incurred to construct the building. More than $100,000 was donated, and the center is now debt free.

The Golden Visitors Center Corporation depends heavily on donations. You can donate online here
