The Taj Mastall
For decades Golden Lions Club volunteers have dedicated themselves to giving Golden the finest public restrooms in the Denver metropolitan area. Pictured here downtown on 11th Street, near the Astor House Museum, is a public restroom built by the Lions Club and affectionately known in Golden as the Taj Mastall. It's just one more reason people feel welcome in Golden.

Special Golden Events

The thing about Golden is that there's always something to do and something going on. So when you tire of free parking, hiking, biking, fishing, hang gliding, tubing, shopping, eating and touring, plan to attend Golden's myriad special events.

Jump into springtime at Golden's easter egg hunt in Parfet Park the day before Easter. In April, enjoy the Colorado School of Mines E-days concerts, fireworks and cardboard boat races. Bring a bicycle and a costume, and join the Golden Cruise on the last Tuesday of evey month from April until October, or pull up a seat on the Avenue to watch classic cars cruise town on the first Saturday night each month during the summer.

On the first Friday evening of every summer month, there are street fairs on Washington Avenue, with beer, food and live music. On summer Saturday mornings, park downtown and walk or take a horse-drawn carriage to buy fresh produce at the Golden farmer's market. Enjoy the Golden Music Festival in June, and celebrate Independence Day at Golden's good old fashioned fourth of July party in Lions Park, complete with raffles, music, beer, burgers and the best fireworks this side of Denver.

Kick off the National Hot Rod Association's Mile High National drag races at nearby Bandimere Speedway by attending the Mopar Big Block Party in July. Downtown Golden will be filled with showroom-perfect classic cars and live rock 'n' roll music. Buffalo Bill Cody will be in Golden the last weekend in July for Buffalo Bill Days, Golden's signature summer event.

Golden has free Music and Movies in the Park in August, and August is also when more than a hundred artists will display and sell their work at the Golden Fine Arts Festival. Thomas the Tank chugs into town in September. Golden hosts two prestigious film festivals: the DocuWest International Documentary Film Festival in September and the Colorado Environmental Film Festival in February. Golden's misnomered Crazy Days is (are?) in October, when downtown merchants treat trick-or-treaters to treats for three hours on (or just before) Halloween. The Olde Golden Christmas candlelight walk at the start of the Christmas season has become Golden's most beloved winter event, drawing thousands to town to carol their way through downtown to celebrate the lighting of lights at Clear Creek. Throughout December, historic downtown Golden hosts weekly Christmas parades to keep shoppers in the holiday spirit.
